I have been thinking alot lately about how a small business might use a blog and why a business would want to use one and I came up with these reasons, in no particular order:

To promote a new product or service
To announce a new person joining the company or being promoted within the company
Allow sales staff to show off what they know and publish articles and build the business up as a reputable source of information in their industry.
A quick and easy way to start a newsletter using Feedburner.
As a quick way to announce company sales or specials.
Announce company downtime whether that is possible server downtime or the company is taking a break for a holiday such as the 4th of July or New Years Day.

I got a little carried away and put six in there. Consider it a bonus! It is so easy to find ideas where a small business can use a blog to extend their business. Feel free to post your ideas also.
