If you run a blog chances are your blog has what is called a “RSS Feed“. By default these feeds are there but there is no way to track the usage of the feed. Enter FeedBurner! With feedburner you can “burn” your feed. Feedburner will create a special URL for your feed so you can track who is using your feed (all anonymous though you can’t see if mom is watching it). For wordpress there is a plugin to use the feedburner feed called the FeedBurner FeedSmith. This will redirect anyone who types in your feeds direct URL to your FeedBurner URL. You can even place “Chicklets” that show the number of subscribers to your visitors. I choose not to do this.. You can track your visitors in the admin area of FeedBurner. You can also create a mailing list just click on “Publicize” at the top and then “E-mail subscriptions” on the left. FeedBurner will give you the HTML code to place in your templates sidebar.php code. Using this your subscribers will get an e-mail daily when new posts are published on your blog. Thus driving traffic to your blog!
