Nope this is not some software that will install those annoying “ad” programs. It’s called openDNS and is free. You can also optionally sign up for an account with them. I added the openDNS IPs to my Netgear router and BAM! I was using openDNS. I added it to the router rather than my PC because I want anyone on my network to use openDNS and not just my laptop. OpenDNS also helps get rid of those fake “phishing” sites. The sites that look like paypal but are not and just want to steal your paypal username & password.
