Buyer beware! If your company called up it’s hosting company or had a web design company and had them register a domain name for you then someone at your organization should definitely look into this. What I am talking about is the “whois” information related to your domain name. The whois information lists the owner of the domain, which is generally called the “Administrative Contact”. To be safe your company or organization should also be listed as the registrant. The person or company listed there should be you or someone at your organization and not the hosting company. The reason why is that should the hosting or design company go out of business you will be jumping through many many hoops if you can even jump through them to get your domain back. Any reputable host will respond accordingly if you simply e-mail them and ask them to use your contact information for your companies domain name(s). How do you see what is listed in this whois information? Just go to www.freewho.com and type in your domain name and click the submit button. If your company is not listed as the Administrative contact e-mail the company that registered your domain name immediately and ask them to put your information in. Too many good companies get burned when their web hosting company goes under and leaves their clients hanging.

aye aye….
when will people ever learn?
i have done a LOT of domain name recoveries and they arent cheap.
do more than be listed as the admin contact, transfer it out of there so they can not change the info back.
i suggest you do not register your names at godaddy because they are the only company i know of that will arbitrarily give your name to someone else if someone else can provide any sort of documentation.
I haven’t heard that before about godaddy. I have alot of domains with them and have not had an issue with them. The major problem is with domain resellers going out of business and leaving their clients sitting there like fish in a barrel.
