What is the difference between a .com domain name and a .net domain name?
PK,
The majority of people automatically think of adding the .com to a domain name. It is always best to register that name if it is available. Second best in my opinion is the .net domain name. Plan on marketing this domain alot more for direct type ins. I see alot of people coming from portalplanet.com to my companies site portalplanet.net simply because they met me and remember my company but not my website URL. I’m fortunate to have the .com and .net extensions for my company. I recommend registering both if they are available and having your host point the .net to the .com site. This is simple to do and any host who says they can’t should not be hosting websites and you should immediately move your site to Portal Planet. If the domain is for a new company or product maybe look at names that are available? No one knows of your company anyway so why does it matter if your company is Blue Bicycle or Red Bicycle?
In closing I always recommend the .com extension. That is what people think to type in when they are sitting at their computers. If you can not get the .com go for the .net or think about renaming your company or product if it is new.
