My new cell phone the Treo 650

by Justin on June 20, 2006

Treo 650I finally broke down and got this. It was between this one and the Blackberry. I chose the Treo 650 because it also offered a camera. I like the phone overall. I have added in some Palm Pilot games (solitaire and mine sweeper so far). The camera is ok. It’s not the best but then again it’s not made to replace my digital camera. The movies are somewhat choppy but that is to be expected.

I did buy some extras for the phone also. One annoying thing I immediately noticed was that the phone didn’t charge when it was plugged in to the USB cable. To charge the phone I had to plug the phone into the wall outlet. I guess that is ok if I don’t have my laptop with me. So I bought a USB sync/charger cable for it. I also purchased a plastic skin for the phone. I don’t want it getting scratched. I also purchased a holster for the phone that is made to fit it with the skin. The holster also faces the face of the phone inside to make sure the face does not get bumped or scratched.

To check my e-mail I use the e-mail program that came on the phone called versamail. It checks a pop3 e-mail account. I just have all e-mails sent to me also sent to a super secret extra pop3 account for the phone to download from. Sending e-mail is also easy to do. The only drawback right now is I am a little slow on the keyboard with the little keys.

I am yet to try the bluetooth capabilities of the phone. I would like to get a headset for the phone. I would also like to try syncing the unit to my laptop by bluetooth. Then I would be in geek heaven!

In conclusion I like my new phone and give it a 9/10. Some improvements I would like to see: the skin not come with a knob for a flimsy belt clip holder. Better scrolling for my contacts. That gets cumbersome. An easier way to dial. No way will I ever be able to dial while I’m driving.
